Women Dominate St. Gregs

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 10, 2007) — John Brown University women’s soccer proved why they belong on top of the Sooner Athletic Conference standings on Wednesday afternoon after defeating St. Gregory’s (Okla.) 4-0 at home.

John Brown got off to a slow start which allowed St. Greg’s to hold JBU scoreless in the first half. The second half, however, was a different tale. JBU broke onto the board in the 54th minute when Camille Malkiewicz and Melinda Gentry both picked up the assists after getting Alison Boster the ball in the box for the header shot.

Then in the 68th minute, Boster picked up her second goal of the day after converting on a penalty kick.

Less than three minutes later, Rachel Gerdin found Natiel Bauer slashing through the middle of the box for the 3-0 lead.

The fourth goal came in the 80th minute when Lizzie Nelson struck an unassisted shot past the keeper after dribbling by several defenders and working her way into the box.

On the day, JBU outshot St. Gregory’s 49-0. Of the 49 JBU shots, 17 were on goal.

With the win the Lady Golden Eagles move to 5-0 in the SAC and 9-3 overall. Up next, the women travel to Southern Nazarene (Bethany, Okla.) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
