Women Advance to Semis

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 27, 2007) — John Brown dominated the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament by easily defeating Science and Arts of Okla. 5-0 at home on Saturday.

Five different players tallied goals on the day. Junior Abby Leonard started things off at 30:47 after she put away the assist from Rachel Gerdin and Sarah Kidd. Then five minutes later, Leonard fed Melinda Gentry for the 2-0 advantage. Just before half at the 41:22 mark, Lizzie Nelson tallied JBU’s third goal after Jodi Knack broke free from a scramble in the box to find her for the tap-in.

JBU continued to control the tempo during the second half and put two more goals away. Camille Malkiewicz picked up her 10th assist of the year when she crossed to Brittany Allen lurking in the box at the 49:56 mark. And at 82:17, Jodi Knack scored unassisted when she blasted a shot from 20 yards outs to seal the deal.

John Brown (14-3, 9-0) returns to the field at home on Monday to host the No. 7 seed Oklahoma Christian at 3 p.m. in the SAC semi-finals. OC (6-9-2, 3-5-1) defeated the No. 2 seed Oklahoma City 2-1 in the quarterfinals.
