Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 1, 2007) - If you’ve been wondering how the new look Golden Eagles would do this year, Saturday’s performance against Mid-America Christian answered all questions. After going ahead by as many as 36 at one point, JBU cruised to a 79-53 win in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
John Brown moves to 7-2 overall, 1-1 in the SAC. First year SAC member MACU dropped to 4-5, 0-2.
Joel Tesis had a spectacular performance with a game-high 28 points on 10-of-12 shooting, 10 rebounds, and three steals, while Cody Page finished with 17. Leading scorer for MACU was Donald Thorne with 10 points.
The Golden Eagles went into the break ahead 13 (33-20) and never looked back.
With under 9:27 left in the game, Tesis nailed two free throws to give JBU their largest lead of the night at 66-30. The Golden Eagles threw it into cruise control after that.
JBU finished the game shooting 54% (30-56) from the floor including 38% (8-21) from downtown, while Mid-America Christian only managed to shoot 35% (19-55) for the game. JBU also won the battle of the boards 38-33. And as a team JBU collected 18 assists to only seven by MACU.
Head coach Clark Sheehy was pleased that his team was able to come back and play a good game after a tough loss on Thursday against Oklahoma City.
“Our guys played hard on Thursday night,” said Sheehy. “And to come back today and respond with hard play after a close loss is something we can definitely build on. I think our guys are starting to believe in what we are trying to do.”
Up next, John Brown faces another first year SAC member in Rogers State (Okla.) on Thursday at 8 p.m. The Hillcats are currently 6-1, 1-0.
