Women's Basketball Inks Pair

Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 18, 2007) — Chelsea Garrison, a 6-2 post from Shiloh Christian High (Springdale) and Michelle Garcia, a 5-9 guard from Sapulpa High (Okla.) have signed national letters of intent to play women’s basketball for JBU next winter.

As a junior, Garrison averaged 12.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game while leading her team to a Class 3-A State Runner-up finish last season. She was also named to the NWA All-Area Team, All Region Team, and the Class 3-A All-State team for her contributions as a junior.

Last season, Garcia helped guide her Sapulpa High team to a Class 6A State Championship and a 27-1 record as a junior. A danger from beyond the arc, Garcia is one of her team’s main three-point threats while playing the point guard position this season.

Head coach Jeff Soderquist is excited and pleased with both signees and anticipates they’ll be able to help the team right away.

“Both these players have championship experience at the high school level and know what it takes to win,” said Soderquist. “Chelsea will add depth to our post position which is key in the Sooner Athletic Conference, and I look for Michelle to add an extra threat at the guard spot.”

John Brown is currently 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.
