Shawnee, Okla. (February 5, 2008) - Both JBU basketball teams faced nationally ranked Oklahoma Baptist squads on Tuesday night in Shawnee, Okla. in a set of make-up games originally scheduled for Jan. 31. JBU women fell 79-54 to the No. 7 Lady Bison in the early game. And the men dropped a 66-60 decision to 17th ranked Bison in the late contest.
After falling behind 35-24 at the intermission, the Lady Golden Eagles would only pull within six points in the second half as OBU used several runs to cruise to the 25 point win. Freshman post Staffica Bain led JBU (7-14, 2-11) with 11 points and seven boards, while Taujhnae Travis scored 21 for OBU (19-2, 11-2).
In the men’s game, OBU (16-5, 8-5) got 17 points and 11 boards from Aaron Perez while picking up the six point win. Cody Page led JBU (9-12, 2-11) with 18.
OBU managed to build a nine-point, 32-23 cushion going into the break and was able to hold on after a 37 point second-half effort by JBU.
Joel Tesis and Jarrett McGriff also scored in double-digits for JBU with 15 and 10 points respectively.
Both teams remain on the road as they travel to Plainview, Texas to take on Wayland Baptist on Thursday at 6 and 8 p.m. The Flying Queens are 10-12 overall and 5-9 in conference play while the No. 22 Pioneers are 14-7 overall and 10-4.
