Men’s Basketball Loses at Wayland Baptist

Plainview, Texas (February 7, 2008) — JBU men’s basketball lost 67-55 to No. 14 Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas on Thursday night. The loss drops JBU to 9-13, 2-12 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

JBU was down 35-32 at halftime, but was able to fight their way to a 50-48 lead with 8:44 left in the game after several lead changes early in the second half. Despite giving up the lead momentarily, WBU (15-7, 11-4) held JBU to only five points in the final eight minutes as apart of a 19-5 run to close out the game.

Sophomore Davaughn Jackson, who’s been a bright spot off the bench for JBU of late, led the way with 12 points and five rebounds. Senior Joel Tesis added 10 points. For WBU, Danny Storey paced his team with 16 points and 11 caroms.

Although JBU didn’t manage to pull out the win, they did shoot the ball well knocking down 43% (21-49) of their shots including 35% (6-17) from downtown. The difference maker came in the turnover column where Wayland Baptist converted 20 JBU turnovers into 25 points, while only committing 10 turnovers themselves.

JBU plays the last of their three game road trip on Saturday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Chaparrals of Lubbock Christian. Game time has been moved to 2 p.m.
