Men Knocked Down by Chaps

Lubbock, Texas (February 9, 2008) — JBU men’s basketball looked to snap an eight-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon. But Lubbock Christian, looking to break a losing streak of their own had other plans. In the end, LCU came out on top, 62-57, handing JBU its ninth loss in a row.

JBU (9-14, 2-13) cut it down to two points, 59-57, with 46 seconds remaining after a pair of Davaughn Jackson free throws. On the ensuing possession, LCU’s Bernardo Rocha drained a three-pointer to push their lead to five points with eight seconds remaining in the game. JBU made several efforts to score but fell short as time expired.

Rocha led all scorers with 15 points and five boards.

Senior Joel Tesis had a team high 14 points for JBU, while Cody Page added 11. Junior Jarrett McGriff grabbed a game high nine rebounds.

As a team, JBU shot 39% (20-51) from the floor including a dismal 28% (5-18) from downtown. The Chaps (12-11, 6-10) also struggled from the floor shooting 35% (18-52) including 30% (7-23) from three-point range. In the rebound column, JBU won 29-24 but continued to labor in the turnover category committing 19 to only 12 from LCU.

The major difference maker in the game came at the free-throw line where LCU nailed 19-of-22 attempts for 86%, while JBU hit 12-of-13 tries all coming in the second half for 92%.

The Golden Eagles return home on Thursday, Feb. 14 to take on No. 17 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) at 8 p.m.
