Men Dropped by SNU
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 14, 2008) — JBU men faced the 11th ranked team in the country in Southern Nazarene at home on Thursday night in Murray Sells. And SNU, coming off a big conference win against Oklahoma City, proved why they are battling for the top spot in the SAC after defeating JBU 74-54.
The game looked headed for a battle down the stretch after SNU (19-6, 13-4) took a five-point, 30-25 lead into the locker room. But SNU opened the second half on a mission going up by 16, 52-36, with 11:05 left in the game.
At the 10:32 mark things turned around for the Golden Eagles as senior forward John Williams ignited a comeback, sparking a 12-2 run to cut it down to 54-50 with 7:28 remaining in the game.
Then things got ugly for JBU as SNU’s leading scorer Brandon Durham took charge scoring five unanswered points to put SNU back ahead 59-50.
In the final seven minutes of play JBU only managed to score four points as SNU finished the game on a 20-4 run to secure the victory. Durham finished with a game-high 22 points, four assists, and five steals for SNU. Big man Earl Isaacson finished with 16.
For JBU, Joel Tesis led the way with 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman Ryland Allen chipped in with nine points and three assists. Overall, JBU shot 42% (21-50) from the floor and grabbed 27 rebounds. Meanwhile, SNU shot 56% (29-52) while grabbing 32 boards. JBU did, however, manage to cut down on their turnovers in this game by only committing 15. SNU turned it over 13 times.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles drop to 9-15 overall and 2-14 in the SAC. JBU looks to snap the 10-game losing streak when the travel to Chickasha, Okla. to take on Science and Arts of Okla. on Saturday at 8 p.m. JBU’s last win of the season came against USAO on Jan. 10 at home.
