KLRC Listeners Bless Families at Children’s Hospital
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 19, 2008) — Once again 101.1 FM KLRC listeners have stepped up to help others in need in a way that exceeded all expectations. Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) in Little Rock had an urgent need for family packs, plastic storage bags filled with personal hygiene items given to parents and caregivers when they bring children to ACH. These family packs help meet basic needs of those who urgently bring children to the hospital and are often unprepared for the long days and nights spent away from home. KLRC listeners were asked to join the “KLRC Cares: With Love from Northwest Arkansas” project and put together family packs to serve families in need. Expecting to collect a few hundred, KLRC staffers were overwhelmed when more than 1500 family packs were donated by Northwest Arkansas listeners. “When we arrived to Children’s with the family packs, the staff was shocked by the outpouring of love from KLRC listeners in Northwest Arkansas,” said Mark Michaels, program director and KLRC morning show host. “Each family pack that was donated by our listeners will be a tangible expression of God’s love to the families who are dealing with so much.” The family packs were delivered on Valentine’s Day by morning show host Mark Michaels and co-host Jen Ryan. It is estimated that over $15,000 in items were donated to the hospital. “Thank you for the outpouring from the Northwest Arkansas community,” said Melissa Wolf, assistant director of volunteer services for Arkansas Children’s Hospital. “It is overwhelming to unload all these family packs and know how much our families are going to appreciate this while they’re here.” On average ACH gives out 100 family packs a month. Thanks to the KLRC listeners, they now have a surplus that will last them over a year. "Once again, our listeners blew us away with their generosity,” said Jen Ryan, promotions director and morning show co-host. “Many thanks to the schools, businesses, churches, organizations and families who made ‘With Love from Northwest Arkansas’ the success that it was. You are amazing!” In November, KLRC listeners stepped up to perform random acts of kindness in response to KLRC’s “Pay it Forward” campaign. December brought another outpouring of generosity as KLRC listeners went above and beyond to grant more than twenty-five different wishes to people in need during the “Christmas Wish” project.
