New Men's Golf Coach Hired
Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 14, 2008) — John Brown University Athletic Director Robyn Gordon has announced that Brian Thomas, former assistant golf professional at Dawn Hill Golf and Racquet Club, has been hired as the new men’s golf coach at JBU.
“We are excited that Brian has accepted the position as head men’s golf coach,” said Gordon. “We believe his experience as a college player and his desire to work with college aged men, are traits that will bring early success to this new program.”
Thomas, who played for Northeastern Okla. State in Tahlequah, added that he’s excited to have the opportunity and is ready to begin forming the team.
“I’m very thankful to be a part of a sport that I’m very passionate about,” said Thomas. “And my first step will be to start contacting current students and also incoming students to get a team established.”
The previous men’s golf program at JBU began in 1967 and was discontinued after the 1973 season. Thirty-five years later, Thomas said that he’s ready to restore the program.
“I believe that getting out within the community and promoting the JBU golf team, as well as the game of golf, is a way to bring back interest,” added Thomas. “My expectations in the first year are to get a good base established for the program, and to field a team that can compete within the Sooner Athletic Conference.”
A native of Siloam Springs, the 30-year old Thomas and his wife, Sarah, have two girls, Makenna (4) and Haley (newborn).
