Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 15, 2008) - The John Brown University women’s volleyball squad finished 2-1 at the Evangel (Mo.) University Tournament over the weekend. On day one, the women won 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-15) against William Woods (Mo.) and 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-16) against St. Mary (Kan.). On day two the women fell 0-3 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23) to tournament host Evangel.
In the three matches, senior Laurae Marty led the attack totaling 27 kills (3.0 kpg) with sophomore Amber Wilson following close behind with 22 (2.44). Freshman outside hitter Kassie Keeter and junior middle hitter Christi Newton both added 20 kills.
In the assist category, junior setter Britney Kerns and sophomore setter Alyssa Hanson each earned 47 (5.22 apg) and 40 (4.44 apg) assists respectively.
Defensively, junior libero Shannon Proctor led the way with 36 digs (4.0 dpg) overall. Meanwhile, Newton gathered nine (1.0 bpg) blocks.
Up next, JBU (4-4) heads to Russellville to take on NCAA Division II foe Arkansas Tech. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
