Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 2, 2008) - It was all JBU from the beginning as the Lady Golden Eagles squad took down conference opponent St. Gregory’s (Okla.) in three quick sets.
JBU (10-8) jumped out to a commanding 10-2 lead in the first game en route to the 25-12 win. During the second game, the ladies continued the hitting exhibition as they won 25-9. And the third and final game saw SGU (0-8) take an early lead but JBU quickly regained control of the game to walk away with a 25-17 win.
Offensively, junior Christi Newton totaled 16 kills to lead JBU on the night while hitting .583. Junior Britney Kerns registered 21 assists.
Defensively, junior Shannon Proctor recorded 13 digs while Newton collected seven blocks. With the win, JBU advances to 2-2 in conference play, and with two conference wins in the books, head coach Robyn Daugherty says her team is ready for the challenges ahead.
“It was good to get everyone playing time,” said Daugherty. “But a conference win is a conference win, and we’re ready to push hard for next week.”
Coming up next week will be two tough conference opponents at home. On Tuesday, the women face an 11-7 team in Southern Nazarene (Okla.) at 7 p.m. and then turn around to take on Oklahoma City (24-3) at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Then they look to close out the week next Saturday when they take on non-conference opponent Texas Wesleyan during homecoming weekend at 1 p.m.
