Volleyball Sweeps Southern Nazarene

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 8, 2008) — The John Brown University volleyball team picked up a key win in SAC action on Tuesday night after defeating Southern Nazarene (Okla.) 3-0.

JBU controlled the match from the beginning and never let up. The ladies picked up some momentum at the end of the first game winning 25-20, which they carried over into the second game to win 25-9. In the third game, JBU continued to dominate every aspect of the game winning 25-16 to close out the match in three.

“To beat them in three handily was incredible,” said head coach Robyn Daugherty. “Our serving was phenomenal, not just aces but placement. We’ll take it.”

JBU (11-8, 3-2) had strong performances across the board with senior Laurae Marty, junior Christi Newton, and sophomores Kirsten Lee and Amber Wilson each earning eight kills.

Junior Britney Kerns led in the assists column with 15, and sophomore Alyssa Hanson totaled 12.

Defensively, junior libero Shannon Proctor led the way gathering 12 digs to go along with five aces.

The ladies return to the court on Thursday when they face the Oklahoma City Stars at home at 7 p.m. OCU is currently 25-5 overall and 3-2 in the SAC.
