Golden Eagles fall to Golden Goal

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 29, 2008) — The John Brown University men’s soccer pushed their game against Rogers State (Okla.) to double overtime on Wednesday night in Claremore but couldn’t come away with the win as RSU scored the golden goal to hand JBU a 1-0 loss.

Both teams held the other scoreless until the second overtime period when the Hillcat’s Griffin Kane score to end the match and give JBU their fifth loss in conference play. JBU drops to 6-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the SAC.

Overall, JBU outshot RSU (9-4-3, 3-3-1) 22-17. JBU keeper Spencer Watson posted nine saves against 11 shots on goal from RSU while RSU’s Sean Surridge posted nine saves against nine shots on goal for JBU.

Up next, the Golden Eagles return home to close out the regular season as they host Huston Tillotson (Texas) on Saturday at noon. Saturday will be senior day for graduating seniors Spencer Watson, Terry Andrew, and Jerry Carcamo. This also be the last home game at Alumni Field for retiring head coach Bob Gustavson.
