Women Knock Down Pioneers
Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 31, 2008) — The JBU women’s volleyball team took over second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings after defeating Wayland Baptist (Texas) at home on Friday night 3-2 (28-26, 25-16, 14-23, 23-25, 15-7). With the win, JBU moves to 18-8 overall and 8-2 in the SAC.
“This is the type of battle you expect when you have two teams battling for second,” said head coach Robyn Daugherty. “We played a little inconsistent, but hey, we got the win.”
Several ladies had double digits in the kill’s column led by senior Laurae Marty and sophomore Amber Wilson with 14 each. Sophomore Kirsten Lee picked up 11.
Junior Britney Kerns added to her assist total on the year after posting 32 assists. Sophomore Alyssa Hanson also had a big night setting up her teammates with 21 assists.
On defense, junior libero Shannon Proctor picked up 24 digs while senior Emily Goodlin earned 21. Junior Christi Newton had eight blocks.
The women close out their home game schedule on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they face the top ranked team in the SAC, Lubbock Christian (Texas). The Lady Chaps are currently 28-1 and 10-0 in the SAC.
