Women Perfect at Home
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 1, 2008) — The John Brown University women’s volleyball team completed their home stand on Saturday afternoon after defeating conference opponent Lubbock Christian 3-2 (26-24, 25-18, 22-25, 25-27, 15-12). With the win, the women finished out the year a perfect 9-0 in Murray Sells Gymnasium.
JBU said farewell to seniors Laurae Marty, Aubrey Junker, and Emily Goodlin before the match and then it was all business.
JBU took the first two games, but LCU fought back to claim games three and four to force a fifth.
LCU took an 8-4 lead in the fifth but JBU went on an 8-3 run to take the 12-11 lead en route to the win.
Offensively, JBU sophomore Kirsten paced JBU with 17 kills after posting a .283 attack percentage. Marty and junior Christi Newton followed up Lee’s performance with 13 and 12 kills respectively.
Junior Britney Kerns and sophomore Alyssa Hanson shared setting duties and picked up 26 and 23 assists respectively.
Defensively, Shannon Proctor collected 29 digs, while Newton had nine blocks.
With the win, JBU moves to 19-8 overall and 9-2 in the SAC. For LCU, the loss, which was only their second of the year, drops them to 28-2 and 10-1 in the SAC.
Up next, JBU travels to Oklahoma City to take on the Stars of Oklahoma City on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
