Women Come Up Short against Lady Rangers
Alva, Okla. (January 6, 2009) — The Lady Golden Eagles had a tough night on the road falling 44-48 in Sooner Athletic Conference action to the Lady Rangers of Northwestern Okla. State on Monday night.
After going into the break down 17-28, the Lady Golden Eagles came out sharp in the second half. JBU (8-6, 2-4) outscored the Lady Rangers 27-20 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome the first half deficit.
Sophomore forward Ashley Taylor (Bergman, Ark.) finished with 16 points and seven caroms to lead JBU in the loss. Freshman post Chelsea Garrison (Springdale, Ark.) added 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
NWOSU (7-4, 2-3) was led by Annalias Farrias with 10 points and a dozen boards.
As a team, JBU struggled only hitting 16-of-54 attempts for 29.6 percent including a dismal 3-of-20 (15 percent) from three point territory. JBU also didn’t take advantage of the freebies from the charity stripe only nailing 9-of-20 for 45 percent.
The Lady Rangers also had a bad shooting night only going 35.4 percent (17-48) from the floor including 16.7 percent (2-12) from long distance. However, NWOSU managed to do a little better from the free-throw line going 12-of-23 for 52.2 percent.
Up next, JBU returns home to take on the NAIA’s 14th ranked Lady Bison of Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday at 6 p.m.
