Slow Start Hurts Ladies
Lubbock, Texas (January 29, 2009) — The John Brown University Lady Golden Eagles fell 48-58 against No. 11 Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Thursday night in Lubbock.
Ashley Taylor finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for JBU (10-11, 4-9). Chelsea Garrison added 11.
LCU (17-3, 10-2), was led by Jordan Hampton with 15.
JBU couldn’t get warm in the first half and fell behind by 15, 16-31, at the break.
In the second half, things got rolling for the ladies, and Taylor would help JBU cut it to six, 29-35, after converting a three point play with 15:00 minutes remaining in the game. But that would be as close of the Lady Golden Eagles would come as LCU managed to hold on down the stretch after getting outscored 32-27 in the second half.
For the night, JBU finished 36% (18-of-50) from the floor while LCU knocked down 37.1% (23-of-62) of their shots. The rebounding edge went to JBU 39-36, but the Lady Golden Eagles committed 16 turnovers while only forcing six.
The ladies remain on the road this upcoming Saturday when they travel to Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
