Four score in double digits as men defeat Drovers
Chickasha, Okla. (February 12, 2009) — It was a big night for JBU basketball as the Golden Eagles picked up a huge 75-63 road win over Science & Arts of Okla. on Thursday night. Davaughn Jackson led all scorers with 18 points, helping propel JBU to 18-7 overall and 11-6 in the SAC.
Also finishing in double digits with Jackson, was Abel Galliguez, who added 14 points, five assists, and five rebounds. Andrius Mikutis continued to provide a lift of the bench with 14 points and six boards, and senior Jarrett McGriff earned a double-double after scoring 11 points and collecting 10 boards.
Adam Shoffit led the Drovers (9-13, 6-10) with 20 points after a 7-for-14 shooting night.
Both teams shot over 60 percent in the first half, but the Golden Eagles found themselves down 41-32 at the midway point.
In the second half, JBU increased the defensive intensity and held USAO to only six made field goals for only 22 points in the half. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles continued to score in flurries on their way to a 43 point second half performance.
For the game, JBU went 28-of-49 (57%) including 5-of-14 (37%) from three and 14-of-20 (70%) from the free-throw line. The rebounding edge also went to JBU 35-28.
For USAO, they dropped from shooting 62% (18-29) in the first half to 23% (6-26) in the second half for an overall percentage of 44% (24-55) for the contest.
The men will remain on the road this upcoming Saturday when they travel to Southern Nazarene (Okla.) to take on the Crimson Storm at 8 p.m. SNU is currently sixth in the SAC with an 8-8 conference record and 15-9 overall record.
