Bethany, Okla. (February 14, 2009) - The John Brown University women’s basketball dropped to 12-14 overall and 6-12 in the SAC after falling 91-68 to No. 14 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Saturday night in the Sawyer Center.
Ashley Taylor finished with 15 points and five boards, followed by Emily Ortiz with 12 points and seven assists. LeNece Glossett added 11 to round out the double digit scoring for the Golden Eagles.
SNU (20-5, 13-4) was led by Lana Keith, who had a game high 26.
After a strong first half, JBU was only down by three, 41-38, heading into the locker rooms.
In the second half, Taylor tied things up for JBU at 47 with 16:38 left after scoring the jumper via a nice pass from Ortiz.
But SNU responded with a huge 28-5 run to go ahead 75-52 with 8:28 remaining in the game.
JBU built some momentum and managed to come within 13, 79-66, with 5:00 left in the ball game but that was as close as it would get as the Crimson Storm finished strong walking away with the 23 point win.
On the night, the Golden Eagles were 46% from the field (26-56), an impressive 52% from behind the arc (11-21), and just 46% from the charity stripe (5-of-11). On the glass, however, JBU was outrebounded 40-23.
For the game, SNU shot 57% from the field (34-60), 27% from three-point range (4-15), and 83% from the free throw line (19-of-23).
