JBU men close out season as one of best in history
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 11, 2009) — The 32 team list of qualifiers for the 2009 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship was released on Wednesday afternoon, but the Golden Eagles of John Brown University will not be making the trip to Kansas City this year despite an impressively notable 23-10 overall record.
In the 50 years of JBU men’s basketball, only seven teams including this year’s squad has had 20 or more regular season wins. This year’s team finished 21-9 in the regular season, which ranks in the top three seasons overall based on winning percentage. The 2008-2009 squad also set a mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference by finishing SAC play at 14-8 (63.6 winning percentage), which is better than any other JBU team in the past 14 years that JBU has been a part of the SAC. Another mark was set during the SAC conference tournament, when this year’s team became the first team in school history to make it to the semifinal round of the SAC tournament. Overall, several JBU athletes received post season honors for their play this year, including SAC Freshman of the Year Abel Galliguez, First Team All-SAC Davaughn Jackson, Third Team All-SAC Cody Page, and Honorable Mention All-Conference Jarrett McGriff.
