JBU Unveils New University Logo
Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 17, 2009) — A new logo for John Brown University announced today combines imagery depicting JBU’s heritage with a contemporary design reflecting the university’s status as a top-tier educational institution, said Jim Krall, vice president for advancement. The new logo was unveiled during President Charles Pollard’s annual “State of the University” address to faculty and staff Monday morning. “What’s appealing about new logo is how the symbolism embedded in the icon ties into so many facets of JBU’s identity,” said Allen Dempsey, JBU creative director. “A community is described by symbols and the ideas behind those images. The new university logo incorporates the ideals that are core to the JBU community.” The shield outlining logo is reminiscent of the first logo used to represent JBU beginning in 1938. The threefold motto “Head, Heart, and Hand” is represented through the three blue quadrants. The image of the Cathedral in the fourth quadrant represents the most iconic building on JBU’s campus. The center cross that divides the shield into the four quadrants represents JBU’s Christian motto “Christ Over All.” The circle in the center of the cross is a nod to the new Cathedral group plaza, where JBU’s heritage is honored through name-engraved bricks of those who have served the university faithfully.
