Men's soccer rolls by Ouachita Baptist
Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 1, 2009) — The men's soccer team pulled out another close win on Tuesday evening defeating Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) 2-1.
Juan Iraola kicked things off for JBU after scoring off a long assist from the keeper Ryan Helmer in the 10th minute to make it 1-0. OBU had several opportunities to tie things up, but Helmer was up to task and thwarted several OBU opportunities to help JBU hold a 1-0 lead into the break.
The second half started off like the end of the first half with Ouachita Baptist keeping up the pressure as they had several shots just go just wide.
Things remained deadlocked until Iraola netted his second goal on the day unassisted in the 56th minute.
OBU contained to apply pressure with time running out and managed to score a goal in the 72nd minute, but the JBU defense stepped up the intensity in the final 20 minutes to hold on for the win.
Head coach John Miglarese says that several players stepped up big for the team on Tuesday and is happy with the win.
“Ryan came up with two or three really big saves and that’s the mark of a good goalkeeper,” said Miglarese. “They broke us down several times that he had to come up big and he did.”
With the win, JBU moves to 2-0 overall. The Golden Eagles will return to the field at home on Saturday against Williams Baptist (Ark.) at 2 p.m.
