Women's soccer loses in conference semis

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 10, 2009) — The JBU women’s soccer team was eliminated from the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament semifinals on Tuesday afternoon after being shut out by Oklahoma City 3-0 on Alumni Field.

Malin Anderson posted the hat trick on the Golden Eagles after notching goals in the 24th, 73rd, and 86th minute. Sarah Leonard and Josefine Holmgren assisted on the goals.

Both teams gave strong defensive efforts, but OCU (11-6-1) took advantage of their shots while JBU couldn’t get on target. Both teams had nine shots on goal, but OCU took the shots on goal advantage 5-2.

“You’ve got to score goals and create more opportunities,” said head coach Joe Thoma. “Hats off to OCU. They played a fantastic game.”

OCU will advance to the tournament championship on Friday to face the winner of Rogers State (Okla.) vs. Southern Nazarene (Okla.).

Now at 12-6, the JBU women have a long shot at receiving an at large bid to the NAIA national tournament.
