Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 10, 2009) - A strong performance by junior Andrius Mikutis (Silale, Lithuania) helped propel the JBU men’s basketball team past Dallas Christian 66-49 in non-conference action on Tuesday night in Murray Sells.
Mikutis scored 18 points and grabbed 13 boards to lead JBU (3-0) in both categories. Senior Davaughn Jackson (Nassau, Bahamas) also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Ryland Allen (Ft. Worth, Texas) added 12, and sophomore Abel Galliguez (Sugarland, Texas) put up 11.
Antwan Warren paced Dallas Christian with 21 points after going 4-of-10 from the floor and 11-of-14 from the charity stripe.
Overall, both teams struggled from the floor. JBU shot 44 percent (25-56) from the field but had difficulty from deep only canning 34 percent (9-26) of their attempts. JBU won the battle of the boards 47-30, but committed 21 turnovers while only forcing 16. For DCC (0-6) they only hit 26.9 percent (14-52) including 18.2 percent (4-22) from three point territory.
“I told our players that I thought we played hard but we could never get in rhythm,” said head coach Clark Sheehy. “Dallas Christian played really hard and I don’t think we responded that well. I’m not discouraged with our effort tonight, but we’ve surely got to tighten up our execution.”
The Golden Eagles will have the next six days off before returning to action on the road against Bacone in Muskogee, Okla. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
