Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 24, 2009) - Senior Davaughn Jackson once again led JBU to victory on Tuesday night in Murray Sells after posting 25 points and 12 boards in an 85-75 upset win over Rogers State (Okla.), the sixth ranked team in the NAIA’s preseason rankings.
Freshman Coleson Rakestraw added 20 points for JBU (6-0, 1-0) in his first Sooner Athletic Conference game, and sophomore Adrian Miller chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Junior Reggie Burnett and senior Lance Sullivan had 21 and 20 points respectively to lead RSU (3-2, 0-1).
With 2:42 left in the game, Sullivan buried a trey to pull RSU within two, 66-64. On the next possession, JBU took advantage of a Sylvester Spicer personal and technical foul to go up by six, 70-64, after Rakestraw and Sam Bartlett hit four consecutive freebies.
Sullivan came down and buried another trey to close the margin, but Jackson quickly answered on the other end for JBU.
RSU struck back with Burnett having a chance at the three point play, but he missed the free-throw as JBU held a 72-69 lead with 1:37 left.
In the final 1:30 things fell a part for RSU helping JBU quickly pull away and push the lead to 13, 84-71, with :24 seconds left in the game.
Overall, JBU shot 47.5 percent (28-59) from the floor, but struggled from deep only burying 22.7 percent (5-22). RSU went 27-of-58 overall for 46.6 percent. JBU dominated the glass 41-29 and also forced 19 RSU turnovers while committing 17.
The Eagles will return to action on the road this Friday when they travel to Oakland, Calif. to participate in the Holy Names Classic. JBU will take on Holy Names on Friday at 8 p.m. (pst), and on Saturday they tipoff against Cal State Maritime at 4 p.m. (pst).
