Women trample Lady Drovers
Chickasha, Okla. (December 5, 2009) — The JBU women’s basketball team picked up an easy win on Saturday night in Chickasha, Okla. after defeating Science & Arts of Okla. 61-36 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The win improves JBU to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.
Katie Mangels led JBU with 12 points and five rebounds after going 4-of-5 from the floor including 3-of-4 from downtown.
“We recruited Katie to be a shooter,” said head coach Jeff Soderquist. “So it’s good to see her getting that confidence.”
Jessica Berlin was the only other JBU player in double figures with 10.
Brooke Smith led USAO (2-7, 0-1) with nine points.
JBU controlled things from the jump and never relinquished the lead. After a 32-16 halftime advantage, the Eagles kept on the pressure in the second half forcing USAO into 28 turnovers for the game. With a steady offensive attack, JBU was able to pull away for the 25 point win.
Overall, JBU shot 43.1 percent (22-51), while holding USAO to 27.6 percent (16-58). JBU lost the rebounding battle 37-35.
JBU will travel to Rogers State (Okla.) on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tipoff. In their first matchup of the year, JBU defeated the Lady Hillcats 75-67.
