Ladies split at Cruzin Classic

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (December 19, 2009) — The JBU women’s basketball teamed moved to 6-6 on the year after going 1-1 at the two day Nova Southeastern Cruzin’ Classic in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on Dec. 18-19. On day one, the women dropped a 69-67 heartbreaker to No. 2 Saint Xavier (Ill.), and on day two, the ladies cruised by Mayville State (N.D.) 71-45.

Against Saint Xavier, freshman Jessica Berlin helped push the second ranked Lady Cougars to limit after pouring in 24 points, which included going 6-of-9 from downtown, and grabbing seven boards. Sophomore post Chelsea Garrison added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Three players finished in double digits for SXU, led by Kathlyn McClain’s 18.

In their second matchup, three players reached double-figures to help propel JBU past MSU. Junior Katie Mangels led the way with 13. Junior Ashley Taylor put in 11, and senior Lenece Glossett added 10.

Mayville State had two players, Erin Ericson and Laura Taylor, lead the Lady Comets with nine.

The ladies return to play on Jan. 2 when they travel to Alva, Okla. to take on Northwestern Okla. State in Sooner Athletic Conference action. Game time is set for 6 p.m. The men follow at 8.
