Oklahoma City (January 9, 2010) — The JBU men’s basketball team moved back into the win column on Saturday night with a 69-64 thriller over the Oklahoma City Stars in Abe Lemons Arena. The win moves JBU to 12-4 overall and 4-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Senior Davaughn Jackson topped the Golden Eagles with 17 points and five rebounds. Sophomores Adrian Miller and Abel Galliguez added 14 points each. And freshman Coleson Rakestraw tossed in 10.

Kavon Lytch had a game high 26 points and nine rebounds for OCU (5-5, 3-4). Corey Bingham added 16 points and nine boards.

After a 31-31 tie at halftime, both teams came out ready to fight in the second half and sent it down to the wire. With 41 seconds left in the game, Miller gave JBU a 65-60 lead after nailing two free-throws. But OCU quickly drove the ball up the floor where Lytch put back a miss to make it 65-62.

With 24 seconds left OCU sent Rakestraw to the line where he hit both to put JBU back ahead by five, 67-62, but Lytch once again made it a three point game after scoring on the other end with 12 seconds left.

OCU tried to steal the inbound but was forced to foul and sent Miller back to the line where he converted one of two for the 68-64 lead.

The Stars rushed it up the floor but missed on their attempt. Jackson cleaned the glass and got the ball to Galliguez who was fouled with four seconds remaining. Galliguez missed the first but hit the second to seal the deal for the Golden Eagles.

Overall, JBU hit 41 percent (24-59) for the game. OCU, meanwhile, hit 43 percent (23-53). The Golden Eagles went 15-of-20 from the charity stripe, while the Stars struggled going 10-of-21.

JBU took the rebounding edge 38-37, and also forced 16 turnovers while committing only 12.

JBU returns to the road on Thursday when they travel to Shawnee, Okla. to face No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist in SAC play.
