Men's basketball preview

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 25, 2010) — The Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week beginning with Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas on Thursday at 8 p.m. The team then travels to Lubbock, Texas to take on Lubbock Christian on Saturday at 3 p.m.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU enters this week’s contests at 14-6 overall and 6-6 in the SAC, after going 1-1 last week. Davaughn Jackson, a 6-5 senior forward from Nassau, Bahamas, continues to lead the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 15.4 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game.

JBU looks ahead to the Texas panhandle where they’ll be taking on a pair of Texas teams coming off huge wins last week. Both WBU and LCU went 2-0 in their games.

JBU swept both WBU and LCU in their four bouts last season.

The Golden Eagles are currently averaging 78.2 points per game as a team while holding opponents to 71 points per game.

JBU is currently ranked seventh in the Sooner Athletic Conference, which is one spot behind LCU and three spots ahead of WBU.

ABOUT THE WBU PIONEERS: The Pioneers had a 2-0 performance last week. They defeated Northwestern Okla. 58-51, and dominated No. 12 Oklahoma Christian 71-53. They currently stand at 7-10 overall and 3-9 in the SAC. Rishi Kakad, a 6-3 senior guard from Phoenix, leads the team in scoring with 18.4 points per game, while 6-5 sophomore forward Bobby Watkins from Amarillo, Texas leads in the rebounding column with 5.9 rebounds per game

The Pioneers currently average 70.2 points per game as a team while giving up 70 points per game to their opponents.

The Pioneers were ranked ninth in the SAC preseason poll but currently sit in the 10th spot.

ABOUT THE LCU CHAPARRALS: LCU is 12-6 overall and 7-5 in the SAC after a huge week last week. They knocked off No. 12 Oklahoma Christian 67-55 and defeated Northwestern Okla. State 84-78. Kenny Hewitt, a 6-7 junior forward from Dallas, leads the team with 15.9 points per game, and 6-4 sophomore guard Douglas Williams from Floydada, Texas averages 5.7 rebounds per game to lead the team in that category.

LCU currently tops JBU by one notch sitting at the sixth spot in the conference standings. They were ranked eighth in the preseason coaches’ poll.
