Plainview, Texas (January 29, 2010) — The JBU women’s basketball team lost 66-62 to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday afternoon in Plainview. With the loss, the women fall to 7-14 overall and 3-10 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Junior Emily Ortiz led the Lady Eagles with 14 points and five assists, while Ashley Taylor added 13 points and four rebounds.

Jessica Walker led WBU (12-8, 7-6) with 17 points, five assists, and six steals. Erika Raymond added 16.

JBU fought back from an early 13 point deficit to make it a 33-28 WBU lead at halftime.

In the second half, JBU opened things up on an 8-3 run with Ortiz tying things up at 36 with 17:03 left in the game. Over the course of the next five minutes, the Eagles continued their hot shooting and were able to go ahead by six, 58-52 with 6:59 remaining.

Wayland Baptist maintained their calm, however, and stepped up their defense closing out the game on a 14-4 run to take hold on for the come from behind win.

JBU shot 47% from the floor, while holding WBU to 36% percent. WBU forced JBU into committing 23 turnovers while only committing 11.

JBU returns to action on Saturday when they travel to No. 20 Lubbock Christian for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
