Bartlett helps men dominate Chaps
Lubbock, Texas (January 30, 2010) — Behind junior Sam Bartlett’s 21 points, the JBU men’s basketball team picked up a big 73-68 conference win over Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday.
With the win the men improve to 15-7 overall and move ahead of the Chaps in the conference standings with a 7-7 SAC record.
Several other JBU players had big contributions for the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Abel Galliguez scored 13 points, while senior Davaughn Jackson and junior Andrius Mikutis finished with 12 and 11 respectively. Sophomore Adrian Miller didn’t finish in double digits in the scoring column with only seven points, but he dominated the glass grabbing 17 rebounds for a career high.
For LCU (12-8, 7-7), Douglas Williams had 17 and Kenny Hewitt tossed in 12.
JBU controlled every aspect of the game from the tip. And after a brief 5-5 tie at the 17:28 mark in the first period, JBU began to pull away and never looked behind.
In the second period, JBU used a balanced attack to sprint ahead by 19 points, 56-37, with 11 minutes left in the game. LCU tried to make a comeback, but the hole was too deep and time was limited as the Chaps eventually gave up the five point decision.
For the game, JBU shot 50% from the floor while holding LCU to 43%. JBU also owned the boards taking a 40-28 advantage.
The men return to action on Thursday when they face Oklahoma City at home in an 8 p.m. bout.
