JBU Hosts Renowned Pianist in Concert
Siloam Springs, Ark (February 26, 2003) — As part of its ongoing Lyceum series, the John Brown University music department will host a piano concert featuring guest artist Teresa Walters. The concert will take place Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jones Recital Hall in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the campus of John Brown University. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18, but Walters was snowbound in New York City and unable to travel to Arkansas. She graciously rescheduled the concert during a week she had planned as vacation, saying she looked forward to performing at a Christian university and didn’t want to cancel the JBU concert.
Widely considered to be one of the most significant virtuoso pianists performing today, Walters’ new CD has been nominate for the Grand Prix du Disque. Teresa Walters has performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris and the Great Hall of Moscow. Recent international tours have included Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Australia, Japan and Israel. Her recital at JBU is part of an international schedule this season that includes performances throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia.
Walters recently became the first American pianist invited to perform three prestigious European recitals honoring the anniversary of composer Franz Liszt’s birthday, including a performance at the Esterhazy Palace in Austria under the patronage of the present governing Prince Anton Esterhazy. At the composer’s birthplace in Raiding, her concert was televised by Austrian National Television, who described her as “one of the world’s most significant pianists.”
Walters’ JBU concert is titled “Composers and Patriotism” and will include selections by Beethoven, Liszt and Gershwin.
