Men move one step closer
Bethany, Okla. (March 5, 2010) — The JBU men’s basketball team held a shooting clinic against Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Friday night defeating the Chaps 77-60 to advance to the SAC Tournament championship game to be held on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Sawyer Center on the campus of Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Ryland Allen and Adrian Miller both scored 14 points to lead the JBU offensive effort followed by Andrius Mikutis with 13 and Sam Bartlett with 12 points and 11 boards.
LCU was led by Justin Tatum, Kenny Hewitt, and Douglas Williams all with 12 points. The Chaps finish the year at 14-16.
In the first half, JBU sprinted out of the gates and jumped out to a 15 point, 20-5, lead midway through period. Miller got things rolling after burying a deep three followed by Mikutis and Allen adding to the action. By the end of the period, the Golden Eagles found themselves ahead 48-25 after holding LCU to 29% shooting for the half.
In the second period, LCU managed to cut it down to 19 points in the opening minutes, but JBU pushed it back to a 24 point game after Bartlett and Davaughn Jackson began to get involved. The teams traded baskets for most of the second period before LCU managed to go on a run and cut it to 15 with less than four minutes left. But the deficit was too large as JBU held on for the 17 point victory.
For the game, JBU shot 56% from the floor while holding LCU to 36.5% for the game. JBU won the rebounding battle 37-21 but committed 19 turnovers while forcing 12.
Now 23-9 on the year, JBU will face the Rogers State (Okla.) in the championship game on Saturday. RSU defeated No. 6 SNU in overtime 72-71 to move on. The winner of Saturday night's game will receive an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City.
