KLRC Recognized by NAB for Community Service
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 18, 2010) — 101.1 FM KLRC has been selected as a finalist for the National Association of Broadcaster’s Crystal Award for Community Service. The NAB has been honoring radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service since 1987.
KLRC general manager Sean Sawatzky said the nomination would not be possible without the outstanding support of KLRC listeners.
“Our listeners are the best anywhere. They always respond with enthusiastic support when presented with an opportunity to impact the community," he said. "I'm so grateful for a staff that loves to serve and for the ownership of John Brown University that encourages us to make a difference."
KLRC is the only radio station in Arkansas to be selected to be among the 50 nationwide finalists. They are the only Christian radio station in the country to be nominated for the award.
In November, KLRC listeners stepped up to perform random acts of kindness in response to KLRC’s “Pay it Forward” campaign. In December, KLRC listeners granted more than 50 wishes of Northwest Arkansas Residents through the “Christmas Wish” project. In February, KLRC joined 1,000 other Christian stations across the nation to assist Compassion International in providing hope and help to those impacted by the earthquake in Haiti.
"This nomination is a reflection of the heart of our listeners and the soul of this radio station,” said Mark Michaels, KLRC program director. “Pouring ourselves into loving our neighbors is what we do! And while it's really encouraging to be recognized at this level, the greatest reward comes in knowing we have done what we were created to do. If one person realizes that God loves them through our efforts, it's all worth it!"
Crystal Radio Award finalists were chosen by a panel of judges representing broadcasting, community service organizations and public relations firms. Winners will be announced at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas on April 13.
The recognition of excellence in community service comes as KLRC is about to begin its annual fundraiser, Sharathon. KLRC has operates as a listener supported radio station, dependent on the contributions of its listeners to stay on the air. Sharathon will begin on March 30.
