JBU hires new tennis coach
Siloam Springs, Ark. (May 7, 2010) — John Brown University Director of Athletics Robyn Daugherty has announced that former University of Arkansas tennis player Brenton Horne has been hired as the new men’s and women’s tennis coach at John Brown University.
“We are very pleased with Brenton joining our athletic staff,” said Daugherty. “Coach Horne has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in tennis, which is exciting for the current student-athletes, and that knowledge and experience will definitely help in regards to attracting and recruiting future players to our programs.”
Horne, who is originally from Southlake, Texas, competed for the Razorbacks from 2004-2005. He was internationally ranked through the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and ranked nationally by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
Prior to his stint at Arkansas, Horne played for Southlake Carroll Senior High School and spent a year at the John Newcombe International Tennis Academy in New Braunfels, Texas. Horne replaces Dr. Robert Walker, who will be stepping into a new role at JBU. Walker has served the tennis teams for the past eight years – six years as head coach and two years as faculty advisor.
“I’m honored and excited by this opportunity and look forward to working with the players,” said Horne. “I’m also impressed by the potential of the team and will strive to build a regionally and nationally competitive program, but my primary goal is that our team will reflect the mission and values of JBU.” Horne and his fiancée Jennifer Powell, who are getting married later this month, will reside in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
