Muskogee, Okla. (August 28, 2010) - The JBU women’s volleyball team finished 2-0 at the Bacone (Okla.) College Warrior Challenge on Saturday after knocking off Peru (Neb.) State and Haskell-Indian Nations (Kan.) both in three sets.
In their first match, the ladies defeated Peru 25-21, 25-22, 26-24. Junior Allie Rankin led the team with nine kills followed by sophomore Erin Didier with eight. Senior Alyssa Hanson tallied 22 assists, while freshman Staci Williamson added two aces.
Defensively, junior Sarah Jordan picked up 16 digs and Rankin had four blocks.
In their second match, the ladies continued to dominate winning 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 over Haskell. Rankin led in kills with 14, and Didier added 13. Hanson picked up 34 assists, and freshman Erin McIlroy had four aces.
Jordan once again spearheaded the defense with 16 digs with McIlroy adding 13.
With her first two collegiate wins under her belt, head coach Stacie Johnson is pleased with the wins but knows there is a long season ahead of them.
“I’m glad we won, but I know the competition will get better from here on,” said Johnson. “We played well, but we still have some strategic decisions to make that I hope will help us get better.”
The ladies return to Siloam Springs for their home opener against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The match will take place in Murray Sells Gymnasium.
