Golden goal lifts JBU past SNU

Juan Iraola's goal in the 93rd minute propelled JBU into the semifinal round of the SAC tournament against OBU on Monday.

Bethany, Okla. (November 6, 2010) — It took extra time to accomplish it, but in the end, the JBU men’s soccer team came away with a 1-0 win over Southern Nazarene (Okla.) during first round action of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.

Both teams were fairly even throughout the match with a 4-4 tie on shots on goal and SNU having a slight 17-16 advantage on shot attempts. In the 93rd minute, however, JBU’s Juan Iraola headed in a cross from freshman Ramon Martinez to lift JBU into the semifinals. This was Iraola’s 10th goal of the year.

JBU’s Pablo Garcia picked up the shutout with four saves.

The men now look to face top seeded Oklahoma Baptist on Monday at 2 p.m. in Shawnee. Oklahoma Baptist defeated eighth seeded St. Gregory’s (Okla.) 2-1 to advance.
