Oklahoma City (January 1, 2011) — A 66-54 win over Mid-America Christian (Okla.) improved the JBU women’s basketball team to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.  The win also set a new record for consecutive wins in school history, which now stands at nine in a row.

Senior Emily Ortiz led JBU with 13 points and three boards followed by senior Katie Mangels with 12 points and five boards.  Freshman Sierra Shipley rounded out the double digit effort with 11 points and six boards.

For MACU (6-5, 2-3), Magen Roth finished with 11 points.

After a tough first half, JBU clung on to a two-point 29-27 lead heading into the break.  But in the second half, the ladies were able to put together several runs which put some space between them and the Lady Evangels.  With 7:55 Mangels drained a deep three to make it 50-42.  From this point, JBU steadily began to pull away before claiming the 12 point win.

For the game, JBU shot, 42.2 percent (19-of-45) while holding MACU to 27.9 percent (17-of-61).

Up next, the women return home on Monday night to face second ranked Oklahoma City at 6 p.m. in Bill George Arena.
