Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 6, 2011) - Despite poor shooting on Thursday night, the 22nd ranked JBU women’s basketball team came away with a 58-46 win over Oklahoma Baptist at home in Bill George Arena. With the win, the women improve to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Kortni Kendrick and Chelsea Garrison both scored 11 points to lead the JBU scoring effort. Katie Mangels added nine points and six rebounds. And Jordyn Ferrell had six points and five boards.
Gabriell Mattox had a game high 15 points to lead OBU (4-10, 2-4).
JBU played from behind most of the night and with 8:44 left found themselves down by eight, 44-36. But from this point, the tables turned, and OBU went ice cold. JBU took advantage of the OBU misfortune and went on an 11-0 run to take the 47-44 lead with 6:41 to go. Mattox responded with a quick bucket to make it a one point game, but that would be OBU’s final bucket of the night. JBU held the Lady Bison scoreless for the remaining six minutes and closed out the contest on a 9-0 run to secure the win.
For the game, JBU shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57), while OBU shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field. JBU got outrebounded 46-40 but forced 18 turnovers while committing only 10.
Up next, the ladies travel to Shawnee, Okla. to take on St. Gregory’s on Saturday at 3 p.m.
