Shawnee, Okla. (February 8, 2011) — The JBU men’s basketball team gave up a 72-68 decision to No. 7 Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday evening in Sooner Athletic Conference action.

With the loss, the men drop to 16-7 overall and 8-7 in the SAC.  OBU, meanwhile, improves to 19-4 overall and 13-2 in conference play.

Four JBU players finished in double figures led by Sam Bartlett with 13 points.  EJ McWoods and Andrius Mikutis added 12 each.  And Adrian Miller pitched in with 10 points.

For OBU, Kevin Swinton had a game-high 27 points and seven rebounds, followed by Tim Bowman and Maurice Foster with 11 each.

It was a 40 minute battle that saw nine lead changes and four ties, and the largest lead of the night came when OBU’s Jacob Isham scored with 10:13 to go to put the Bison ahead 54-47.  But JBU responded with a 17-5 run capped off by a three point play from Bartlett to go ahead 65-59 with 3:05 left.

After regrouping, OBU scored several buckets and made a few key defensive stops to tie the game up at 68 with 1:08 left.  JBU came up empty on their next offensive possession when OBU’s Derick Echols came up with a huge block and defensive rebound before getting fouled.  Echols converted 1-of-2 from the charity stripe with :34 seconds left to play to give OBU the one point lead, 69-68.

JBU turned the ball over after a scrum for the rebound and was forced to foul and send Tim Bowman to the line where he canned both free-throw attempts to go up by three, 71-68.

With a final shot to tie it up, Mikutis' three point attempt fell short and Echols picked up the rebound and was sent back to the line where he went 1-of-2 to seal the deal.

For the game, JBU was red hot shooting 59.5 percent (25-of-42) from the floor.  OBU also had a solid shooting night going 46.2 percent (24-of-52) on the day.  The rebounding advantage went to JBU 29-26.

A big difference maker came at the foul line where OBU had more attempts going 17-of-26 (65.4%) compared to 11-of-16 (68.8%) from JBU.

JBU won’t have long to think about the loss as they are back on the road on Thursday night to face Oklahoma City.  Game time is set for 8 p.m. in Abe Lemmons Arena.
