Oklahoma City (February 14, 2011) — With 1.2 seconds left on the clock, JBU’s Coleson Rakestraw buried a three pointer to help the Golden Eagle men hang on to defeat Oklahoma City 67-66 in Sooner Athletic Conference action.

The win propels JBU to 18-7 overall and 10-7 in the SAC.  Meanwhile, OCU drops to 15-10 overall and 8-9 in SAC play.

Rakestraw finished with 15 points leading JBU and was followed by Andrius Mikutis with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists including the one to Rakestraw for the win.  Adrian Miller rounded out the double digit effort for JBU with 10.

Oklahoma City was led by Brandon Moton’s 19 points and three rebounds.  And Dee Proby added 13 points and three rebounds. 

Despite being down by five, 35-40, at halftime, JBU was able to stay close down the stretch before eventually tying it up at 56 with 8:56 remaining in the game. 

After a 5-0 run, the Golden Eagles held a 61-56 lead with 4:56 left to play, but OCU had one final spurt and managed to close the gap and take a one point lead after a three from Moton with 27 seconds remaining to make it 65-64 OCU. 

On JBU’s next possession, EJ McWoods would have the ball stolen by Orlan Jackman, and Sam Bartlett would be forced to commit his fifth foul and sit the rest of the way. 

Jackman went to the line where he missed the first but converted the second to put OCU ahead 66-64 with 10 seconds left. 

JBU got the ball in and pushed it up the floor where Mikutis found Rakestraw for the game winning basket.  OCU called timeout with 1.2 seconds remaining, but after inbounding the ball, they didn’t have enough time to get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.

The difference maker for the night came at the foul line where OCU went 12-of-27 (44.4%) compared to 16-of-22 (72.7%) from JBU.  From the field, OCU was slightly better going 25-of-47 for 53.2 percent compared to 25-of-52 from JBU for 42.3 percent.

The advantage on the boards went to JBU 33-29, but turnovers were in favor of OCU 16-18.
