Construction begins on soccer press box
Siloam Springs, Arkansas (September 7, 2011) — Students from the construction management and engineering program here at JBU began work on constructing the new JBU soccer press box earlier this week.
“We are really excited to see this project get under way. A lot of time and effort was spent to get this going,” said head men’s soccer coach John Miglarese. “Once it is completed, not only will it provide a safe area for broadcasting games live over the internet, it will also improve the overall match environment for spectators, staff, and the players.”
Over the last year, members of the athletic department along with construction management professor Jim Caldwell worked together to make this project a reality.
Currently, 17 freshmen from the Construction Techniques I freshman level course and 10 seniors from the Construction Management I senior level course are putting in a total of 12 hours each week in order to complete the project.
“Our goal is to have the structure up by Homecoming at least for people to be able to see,” said Caldwell. “But there will still be a few other things that need to take place after that before it will be useable.”
So far, $12,000 of the total $15,000 needed to complete the project has been raised.
