The John Brown University men and women’s soccer teams played in a Sooner Athletic Conference match against Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) on the road Wednesday afternoon.
The women fell 2-0 to the Evangels, while the men took the victory at 1-0.
In the first half, MACU’s Kassie Byrd scored in the 12th minute after Julia Nimal found her cutting through the middle of the box. The rest of the first half remained scoreless.
During the second half, MACU was able to put another tally on the board in the 48th minute.
MACU outshot JBU 16-11 overall and 6-5 on-goal. Faith Thurman was able to pick up five saves throughout the game.
The women’s record drops to 5-7-1 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
For the men’s game, MACU found the back of the net early, but not the net of the goal JBU’s Pablo Garcia was guarding. MACU scored an own goal in the 20th minute, which turned out to be the only goal scored throughout the game.
Even though MACU outshot JBU 18-15 overall and 8-6 on-goal, JBU was able to keep MACU from hitting the scoreboard again.
Sophomore keeper Pablo Garcia had eight saves.
With the win, the men’s record rises 7-6-1 and 4-1-1 in the SAC.
Next, the Golden Eagles will face the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at home on Saturday, Oct. 22. The double-header will begin at 1 p.m. with the women and the men will kickoff at 3.
