Branson, Mo. (November 11, 2011) — The JBU women’s basketball team moved to 1-1 on this young season after dropping South Dakota School of the Mines 72-50 on Friday afternoon at the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) Coke Classic.

Sophmores Sierra Shipley and Jessica Berlin paced the Eagles with 15 points each.  Shipley was one rebound shy of picking up the double-double with nine boards.   Sophomore Kortni Barenberg was the only other Eagle player finishing in double figures with 10 points and four rebounds. 

JBU led 28-14 at halftime, and increased their lead to as many as 27, 53-26, with 7:20 left in the second half after a three from Shipley before cruising to the 22 point win.

For the game, JBU shot 48.9% (22-45) from the field including 50% (9-18) from three point territory.  Meanwhile, SDSMT only hit 28.6% (16-56) of their attempts. 

The women return to action on Saturday when they take on Black Hills State (S.D.) at 3 p.m. during day two of the C of O Coke Classic.
