Men's soccer releases names of 2012 signees

Siloam Springs, Arkansas (January 26, 2012) — Head men’s soccer coach John Miglarese today announced the names of eight recruits that have signed letters of intent to play soccer for John Brown University next school year.

Miglarese says, “We are pleased to add another stellar recruiting class to our soccer program. This class represents a very talented and experienced group with players that have played for their national teams, ODP teams, and USSF Academy Teams. We expect big things from this group and are anxious to get them all here in August. What is even better is that we already have Emmet Kumeh and Eli Simonsen on campus this spring which will allow them to assimilate much faster into our team.”

The complete list of players includes the following:

AJ Smith – Little Rock, AR (Forward)

  • Arkansas 6a 2010 All-Conference Honors
  • Arkansas 6a 2011 All-Conference Honors, All State Honors
  • Member of the Arkansas ODP 94 Boys team for 3 years
  • Member and starting forward of the Arkansas Rush Nike 94 Boys team that participated in the Presidents Cup National Championship and place 3rd in July of 2011

Emmet Kumeh – Dallas Texas (SMU) (Midfielder)

  • Currently enrolled in JBU this spring
  • Transfer from Southern Methodist University
  • 2011 (Fr.): Played in nine games, starting three... Scored his first career goal in his first collegiate start 8/27 against No. 13 William & Mary.
  • Prior to SMU:Played club soccer for Solar SC and Ayses
    • Served as team captain of Ayses from 2002-10
    • Has been a member of the U.S. National Team pool since 2006 and has played in numerous international tournaments
    • Led his team to the 2009 and 2010 State title
    • Also won the 2007 State Cup
    • A four-year letterwinner, has served as team captain for the past three seasons
    • Two-time district MVP selection
    • Was an all-region selection
    • Also lettered in basketball
    • Personal: Anticipated sports medicine major... Enjoys playing FIFA and reading novels... Lists George Weah as his favorite athlete... Parents are Emmanuel and Lois Kumeh... Has two brothers.

Eli Simonsen - Faroe Islands (Midfielder)

  • Currently a second semester freshman at JBU
  • Represented Faroe Islands for the U-17 and U-19 national teams
  • While in high school, played for Klaksvikar Itrottarfelag and B68.

Cory Cole – Chang Mai, Thailand/Colorado Springs, CO (Midfielder)

  • Club Team: Thailand Rush
  • Co-captain (jr.) and captain (sr.) year
  •  High School: Grace International School
  • Junior and Senior years co-captain and captain respectively
  • Chiang Mai Athletic Conference champions both years
  •  Son of Chris Cole, former JBU All-American
  • Accomplishments:
    • Chosen to the Rush Elite team, a team sponsored by Eurosport magazine which recognizes the top Rush U18 player on and off the field for every club in the US and across the world
    • Set a school record as a senior at GIS for assists with 24 and a school record for total points as he added 23 goals to the 24 assists
    • Named to the All-tournament team for the 2010 Grace Cup, the 2011 Thailand Rush Cup and the 2011 5 Nations Cup (Taiwan)
    • Also named tournament MVP for the 2011 Thailand Rush Cup and the 2011 5 Nations Cup

Logan Hellinghausen – Austin, TX (Defender)

  • Club Team: USSF Development Academy, Lonestars 94
  • High School: 2012 Captain
  • Honorable Mention All-District – 2009
  • First Team All-District – 2010, 2011
  • Academic All District – 2009, 2010, 2011
  • Killeen Daily Herald All-Area Soccer Team – 2010, 2011
  • 2009 Ranked 5th in the Nation (ESPN Rise), 3rd in the State
  • 2011 Ranked 5th in the Nation (ESPN Rise), 3rd in the State

Zeke Zumbro – Los Alamos, NM (Defender)

  • 2010 New Mexico High School State Champions
  • 2010 1st Team All-State
  • 2010 2nd Team All-District 2011 State Honorable Mention
  • 2011 District Defensive Player of the Year
  • 2011 1st Team All-District

Will Simonds – Dallas, TX (Defender)

  • U16 Academy Soccer with Solar Soccer Club
  • U18 Academy Soccer with Andromeda Soccer Club
  • Texas Football Club 2011-12
  • North Texas ODP Team Member
  • High School Soccer: Coppell High School
  • Varsity captain Junior and Senior year

Marco Cardona – Colombia/ Fredrick, MD

  • Club: FC Fredrick
  • Top Scorer for Spring 2011 – 7 goals
    • All Star on U-17 team for Premier league that won state championship
    • All Star on U-17 team for Bethesda championship
  • Christian Union Sports Club in Colombia
    • Starting Forward u_14, u-15, U-16
  • Top scorer u-15, u-16
    High School: Mount Airy Christian Academy
  • Two years… 48 goals :13 assists
  • League top scorer
  • 2010: MACSAC 1st Team All-Conference and MACSAC All-Tournament Team
  • 2011: MACSAC 1st Team All-Conference and  MACSAC All-Tournament Team
