Men trounce Oklahoma Christian
Oklahoma City (February 10, 2012) — The 15th ranked JBU men’s basketball team reached the 20-win mark for a fourth consecutive year on Thursday night after dropping Oklahoma Christian 60-45 in road action. The win lifts the men to 20-5 overall and 12-5 in conference play.
In what is arguably the most impressive four year span in JBU men’s basketball history where the Golden Eagles have won an incredible 72.8 percent (91-34) of ball games to date, the JBU men continue to dominate the competition at home and away.
Last night, senior Andy Garcia catapulted the offense with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Back-to-back SAC Player of the Week honoree, senior Adrian Miller added 12, while redshirt-junior Abel Galliguez tossed in 11.
For OC (15-9, 9-8 SAC), Kendre Talley was the lone Eagles player to hit double figures with 11.
JBU controlled every facet of the game, from the jump. At halftime, the men held a comfortable 27-14 lead, which allowed them to fight off OC’s attempt for a comeback in the second half.
“This was probably our best defensive effort all year,” said head coach Clark Sheehy. “I’m just proud of the way the guys have responded to adversity all year long. And I’m especially proud of my seniors who have helped us be so successful over the past four years. It really says a lot about these guys.”
Overall, JBU shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the floor, while holding OC to 31.0 percent (18-of-58) and only 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from 3-point distance. JBU also wiped the glass clean winning the rebounding battle 47-30.
Up next, JBU returns home to face Northwestern Okla. State on Saturday at 5 p.m. Earlier in the year, JBU defeated NOSU 104-101 in overtime.
