Officials call for voluntary water conservation

(August 25, 2003) — (Lowell-AP) -- Water isn't scarce in northwest Arkansas -- but the limited capacity of a major water system to deliver water to customers has prompted authorities to urge consumers to reduce consumption during the current hot and dry weather. The Beaver Water District serves Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville and several surrounding communities. Officials of the district on Friday urged cutbacks in usage, particularly during peak periods. Utility officials said they hoped voluntary conservation measures would make mandatory measures unnecessary.
