Grading schools "harder than it sounds"

(September 2, 2003) — (Little Rock-AP) -- State Education Department director Ray Simon says he wouldn't fight the governor's proposal to evaluate schools with letter grades, but says that system may be more complex than it sounds. Simon says a letter grade system could work, but would take months to put into place because it must go through a public comment period. The governor says he favors testing children with national standardized tests but also wants the state to grade its schools on its own standards, using the letters A to F.
