(September 4, 2003) - (Fayetteville-AP) -- A smoking ban is headed to restaurants and other public places in Fayetteville. The Fayetteville City Council earlier this week approved a smoking ban in most public buildings, including restaurants. The aldermen declined to send the issue to residents for a vote. But Free Choice Fayetteville, a group opposed to the ban, plans to gather signatures to put a repeal of the ordinance to the voters. If the ordinance stands, it will go into effect February First. The ordinance bans smoking in restaurants, pool halls, government buildings and other public places. Bars would be exempt from the smoking ban.
